Vision
The National American Indian Veterans Inc. represents and advocates for the improvement in the quality of life of American Indian Veterans and their families. It is the HEART, SOUL, and VOICE of the American Indian Veteran.
Mission
The National American Indian Veterans Inc. is devoted to the representation, advocacy and support of American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and American Samoan Veterans in improving their quality of life and that of their families.
Overview
United States Department of Veteran Affairs recognizes the American Indian Veterans Inc. as the National Organization for representing the unique needs of American Indian, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, American Samoan Veterans and their concerns and issues to Congress and the Federal Veterans Administration.
In carrying out this important responsibility the National American Indian Veterans, Inc. seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- Advocate for American Indian, Native Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian and Native Samoan Veterans with the United Sates to assist in obtaining earned benefits that may have been denied or diminished and to influence passage of legislation to secure or broaden benefits.
- Train Service Officers for local areas to be accessible to veterans for consultation and assistance in filing claims with the Veterans Administration for earned or disputed benefits and to intercede when necessary to assure the proper processing and approval of such claims.
- Maintain a National Website, Publish and Distribute a Newsletter and Serve as a Center of Communication with State and Federal Organizations to keep NAIV membership informed of the status of various VA programs, issues and matters of concern as they occur regarding Veteran benefits and programs at the State and National level.
- Operate a National Headquarters responsible for records creation and storage; maintenance of bank accounts, budget preparation, distribution and accounting for funds, preparing financial reports and maintaining membership rolls.
- Charter lodges in local areas to provide for gatherings of local member veterans to facilitate conversation and identify issues important to them and serve as a common place of various social activities for members, their families, auxiliaries, and guests.
- Charter auxiliaries for the inclusion of spouses, children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters of NAIV members in activities consistent with the aims of NAIV and with those allowed by 501(c)(19) and/or 501(c)(3).
